Gerald Freeman    

Gerald Freeman’s professional education consisted of a blend of art training at the London School of Printing and Graphics Art and engineering with an apprenticeship at a marine diesel engineering company. After service in the Royal Air Force, he freelanced as an illustrator in London and started an art studio partnership called Artra Sudio, Ltd. Noted clients included Kodak, Shell Petroleum, and Texaco. He then immigrated to the United States arriving in San Francisco before working in New York and finally settling in Michigan. Gerald paints mostly detailed, historical scenes featuring automobiles in a rich context. He has been poster artist for both the Meadow Brook and Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance.

About Detroit Knows Cars

The Detroit Knows Cars exhibit illustrates the many different approaches to portraying the aesthetics, beauty, and significance of automobiles.  The exhibit includes painting, photography, and sculpture - all confirming the notion that the automobile is an appropriate subject of fine art.

Event Details

Detroit Knows Cars will be on display January 7, 2012 through January 28, 2012 from 8 AM - 6 PM in the lobby of the Chase Tower Building, and is free and open to the public.
